Breast milk is perfectly designed for your baby and also helps to protect them from infections and diseases. It has long-term benefits for your baby including reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease.

Breast milk on its own is recommended for about the first six months of your baby’s life. It also benefits you by reducing your risk of breast and ovarian cancer and osteoporosis.

Healthy eating for you

You don’t need to eat anything special while you’re breastfeeding but it’s a good idea to eat plenty of fruit and vegetables and drink a lot of water or skimmed and semi-skimmed milk.
